Yamaha Celebrates International Women's Day Showcasing the Voices of Women in the Music Industry and Yamaha's Initiatives
Based on its commitment to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its business, Yamaha Corporation (hereinafter "Yamaha" or "the Company") actively supports the mission of the Unstereotype Alliance* led by UN Women and has been a member of its Japan National Chapter since December 2020.
As part of this initiative, Yamaha launched "Women Who Make Waves 2025" on March 5 on its website. This interview series highlights the voices of women in the music industry worldwide and introduces initiatives from Yamaha Group companies. The series aligns with this year's International Women's Day theme set by UN Women: "For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment."

Now in its fifth year, "Women Who Make Waves" is a brand campaign celebrating women's achievements. This year, several women from the United States, Malaysia, Kenya, India, and Mexico share their thoughts on their experiences in the music industry. The campaign's main video features a conversation between Avery*Sunshine, a singer-songwriter and winner of the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album, and Alexa Tarantino, a jazz saxophonist and member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. They discuss their journeys as musicians, encounters with role models, and messages for those facing challenges in the industry.

In addition to the messages from the musicians, the website also introduces the "She's Got the Groove" project, which is run by a Yamaha sales subsidiary in Mexico, Yamaha de México, S.A. de C.V., to support women through music in Central and South America, as well as the voices of two female employees who are active in the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia, respectively.
The Yamaha Group aims to contribute to the development of an inclusive music industry and a rich, sustainable music culture by supporting the diverse activities of women in music and expanding opportunities for their growth. Together with the Unstereotype Alliance, Yamaha will continue to empower women and girls to express their individuality, sensitivity, and creativity through music and take the initiative to Make Waves.
* Unstereotype Alliance: Global initiative led by UN Women aiming to promote gender equality and eliminate harmful stereotypes through media and advertising. The Japan National Chapter of the Unstereotype Alliance was established in May 2020. Its goals are to become a positive force for change in corporations' advertising initiatives and to eliminate harmful stereotypes from society, with a view to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls (Goal 5).
